Times Square

Times Square is a huge commercial plaza in Midtown Manhattan. Enormous and bright advertisements are unbelievably spectacular. It is also one of the biggest pedestrian intersections in the world. Also one thing that Times Square is known for is the annual ball drop which means that every New Year’s Eve hundreds of thousands of people come to Times Square to celebrate New Year. Times Square has also some places to do shopping but pretty expensive ones. Times Square is the intersection for Seventh Avenue and Broadway. Furthermore, lots of Broadway theater billboards were to be seen at Times Square.

Harlem

Harlem

On our bus tour we drove through Harlem, but we didn’t stop anywhere. Therefore, I saw Harlem only in passing. I had imagined Harlem much different than it was. Harlem is mainly inhabited by non-Caucasian people and it’s a large neighborhood in the northern section of the New York City borough of Manhattan.  At the beginning of 1900s there lived a lot of Jews, Italian, Irish and Finnish people. Harlem has been known as a major African-American residential, business and cultural center. After the year 1900 a lot of African-Americans moved to New York. As a result of migration Harlem grew to be a “black metropolis”. Growing ethnic and economic hostility drove whites out. Depression of the 1930s destroyed the economic opportunities and high rents forced families to share apartments. Nowadays Harlem has seen an influx of new music halls, shops and restaurants. I think that history of Harlem is very interesting, and Harlem is a fascinating destination to visit.

Rockefeller Center and The Top of The Rock

Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is actually a building complex consisting of 14 tall buildings. The complex was built by John D. Rockefeller with an enormous loan of $250 million and I can tell you it was certainly worth it. From the lobby to the observation deck the visitor could tell that some serious money was spent. Our visiting time was scheduled around 6:00pm the perfect time if you ask me! We witnessed the most glorious sunset over the Manhattan skyscrapers.
