MoMA Parts I and II

MoMA Part 1 by Kiia

On Friday the 13th we visited the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA. After we arrived, we were separated into two groups, and we toured the museum in those groups before the official opening hours.

First, the guide asked what we knew about the 1970’s, since the pieces of art we were about to go see were from that time. Then we made our way to the exhibition, where we got to analyze to pieces of art. The first one was a big painting that covered almost the whole room. We sat down and discussed what we were seeing and what we thought of it. Then we got some more information about the artist and the process of making the painting, which helped understand the meaning better. Then we walked over to the next artwork, which was a colorful fabric hung up on the wall. We got to illustrate it on a paper, and we talked about what we saw and what we thought it resembled.

After analyzing and discussing these two pieces of art, we were taken to a gallery where all the artworks were made by women or people who were part of a minority, like part of the LGBTQIA. We had the chance to illustrate our favorite piece on a paper and tell the others more about it. At the end of our visit, we had the chance to go tour the museum by ourselves and see some of the world-famous pieces of art that the museum has in its collections. It was a truly great experience, and we got to see some of the best art in the world.

MoMA Part 2 by Iida

On Friday morning, October 13, we headed to the Museum of Modern Art. When we arrived, we were divided into two groups, in which we went to tour the museum. Our guides were very welcoming and got us all interested in the art on display. We got to take a closer look at two pieces of art and to discuss them. The first art piece was massive as it took up the whole room. It was also colorful and playful. The second piece was very different. It was a piece of cloth that had been painted with several shades of yellow, blue, purple, and red. With the help of the guides, we were able to have an interactive conversation about the art that we were shown.

After the guided part of our visit, we got to explore more of the museum on our own. Many of us went to the 5th floor to see the 1880s-1940s collection. The collection included works of art made by world-famous artists. I was mesmerized by Claude Monet’s Water Lilies. Furthermore, never did I ever believe I’d see The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh with my own eyes. And now I did!
