Porgy and Bess at the MET October 13, 2019

Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan Opera, commonly known as the Met, is an opera company based in New York. It was founded in 1883. It is nowadays located in the Lincoln Center of Performing Arts where it was relocated from 39th and Broadway in 1966. The Met is the largest classical music organization in North America, and it’s operated by a non-profit Metropolitan Opera Association.

The Met hosts around 27 operas a year. We went to see Porgy and Bess. Porgy and Bess tells a story about Porgy, who is a disabled black street beggar, and his attempts to rescue Bess from her troubled life. The actors were incredible, and their singing voices were out of this world. The setting was really detailed and specific. It reminded you of a home, not just a set. The spinning stage was a great addition to bring more angles without changing the setting. Truly an amazing experience.
