New York Public Library visit on October 14, 2016

New York Public Library

New York Public Library was founded in 1895 by James Lenox. The library consists of four research libraries and 88 branch libraries in Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island. The main library which we visited is located on 5th avenue at 42nd street in Manhattan.
It is the second biggest library in the US and fourth biggest in the whole world.
We had a guided tour in the library. Our guide was a lovely retired lady. Everybody liked her. She showed us some places in the library and told us many facts about it. It was a really interesting tour. There are three floors in the library and a ground floor where for example the children's center is located. Unfortunately we didn't visit the ground floor.
I liked the NYPL a lot. I had seen it in some movies so it was interesting to see it in real life. It was much bigger than I thought. Well everything in New York was! It was funny how some ordinary local people were reading or studying in the library while we were on a tour taking pictures.

Our wonderful guide, Margaret, telling us about the history and the present in NYPL
